White to move! How should white proceed?
I am curious whether or not So saw this move- clearly Liem didn't.
What a remarkable move, 1.h4. That is the sort of move that should get a !!! Truly a study-like position.
Oh, I see. I went and looked the game up. At least I blunder like a top GM! 1...Q:h3 survives because 2...Qg3 starts an unavoidable perpetual. The winning idea is the colossal 1. h4!!. Now 1...Q:h4 2. Qe8+ Ka7 3. Bb6#. or 1. ...gh and NOW 2. Bd8 , since the black Q is now hemmed in by her own pawns.
What a glorious move! In the old days, this would have been glossed over by everyone for years, and then some endgame genius would get 15 minutes of fame by finding it. Now Stockfish just mocks us humans by finding moves like this in a few seconds.
A logical decoy! GMs need to think a level deeper that what club-level players would consider a nice combination :-)
