The 71st Russian Chess Championship Superfinal is taking place in Satka from 25th August to the 5th September 2018. The event is a 12-player round-robin, where the winner receives 1 million roubles (~15,000 dollars) and a Renault Kaptur car. The top three finishers qualify automatically for next year's Chess Superfinal.

The time control is 90 minutes for 40 chess moves then 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40 therefore expect big fighting chess games. A tie for first place is split by two 15+10 rapid chess games and, if the score is still tied, a 5 vs. 4 Armageddon chess game, where Black wins if the chess game ends in a draw.
