Huge Success On and Off The Chess Board!

Our students won more World Championships, National Championships & Olympiad Gold than ALL other combine!

By Webster University Chess Coach and Chief Strategist Paul Truong

Congratulations to Ray Robson, Illia Nyzhnyk, Aleksandr Shimanov, Vasif Durarbayli, Tori Whatley, Luisa Fernanda Mercado, Priyadharshan Kannappan and Manuel Manuel León Hoyos (who graduated in December 2017)! We are very proud of all of you!

In 11 years of college chess (5 years at TTU and 6 years at Webster University), we had an average of about 20-25 students per year. I am proud to say that of ALL the students we have had over the years, only 5 did not complete their degrees at either TTU or Webster University. Four went on to other universities and one turned professional and peaked at #2 in the world. And in these 11 years, our students had an average GPA of over 3.5!

These are the records we are so proud of! But hard work off the chess board did not slow our players down on the chess board. In 8+ years in College Division I Chess, our players won more National Chess Championships, World Chess Championships, and Chess Olympiad Gold than ALL other universities with chess programs combine! Many graduates went on to very successful and lucrative careers!

Big kudos to ALL our students! You made your families and us proud! Best of luck and enjoy your long and bright futures ahead!
