Nihal Sarin On pace for GM norm in Reykjavik

Thirteen-year-old Nihal Sarin accounted for a second Grandmaster in as many rounds to jump into joint lead with two others after five rounds of the Reykjavik Open 2018 – Bobby Fischer Memorial Chess tournament in Iceland.

Playing with black, Sarin needed 44 moves to defeat USA’s Elshan Moradiabadi to take his points tally to 4.5 from a possible five. He is tied with another US GM Aleksandr Lenderman and Turkey’s Mustafa Yilmaz in the top spot.

Sarin, who had defeated former world junior champion Adly Ahmed in the fourth round will now face GM Gata Kamsky with white pieces in the sixth round.
