Mortal Kombat 1 has officially wrapped up its cycle of new content. Despite recently launching a “Definitive Edition” in digital format, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have confirmed that no additional downloadable content (DLC) will be released moving forward.
The game will continue to receive updates aimed at balancing and improving gameplay mechanics, but fans hoping for new characters or story expansions are out of luck. The developers have drawn a line under the release of fresh material.
The reasons behind this sudden shift remain unclear. It could be that the team at NetherRealm is ready to move on to its next — still undisclosed — project. Another possibility is that the recent “Khaos Reigns” expansion didn’t meet expectations, leading the studio to redirect its focus. It may well be a combination of both factors.
Regardless of the reasoning, the current roster of fighters will remain the final lineup for Mortal Kombat 1. Fortunately for players, the base game already offers a robust selection of characters and features, delivering a complete and competitive experience even without future additions.
